Mill Valley Paint Off 2009

Mill Valley Paint Off 2009
It was so exciting. My first paint off. Thirty seven plein air painters, all painting views of Mill Valley as seen from the downtown square. I love Mill Valley. the quaint restaurants and country boutique atmosphere; so close to San Francisco. Suburbia, without the Walmarts. Who could ask for more. I hope you get a feeling of peace and serenity viewing this piece. I was quite "in the zone" for this painting. Thanks to the loving support of my husband and 3 kiddees; I had the time of my life. They are already encouraging me to sign up for another paint-off. Here we come . . . !

from Original 18" x 24" Acrylic Painting on Canvas by Naomi Schechter. Based on flower I photographed in the Golden Gate Rose Garden. Standing strong against the sky, this new rose just begged to be preserved in a painting.

This rose is from the Golden Gate Park Rose Garden. You must visit it sometime. There are lovely benches to enjoy the garden. And so much variety. Breathtaking!

Robyn - Oil on Canvas - 8 x 10

My first large "close-up" portrait of a face. Luckily one I know well; my daughter, Robyn. Some people say it's hardest to do someone you know. For sure the pressure is on; as everyone you know will comment on whether or not the likeness is achieved. But the real fun is in the pleasure it brings to the subject. She so enjoyed being painted. I did my best, for her.

When I think of Point Lobos, I think of the weather being in charge: molding the trees, framing the majestic ocean. I couldn't have made up a more perfect scene than nature gave to me.
